March 2003
12 March 2003 - The BMA is marking
National No Smoking Day (12 March) BMA by renewing
its call for the Government to make all indoor public
places smoke free.
Doctors warn that at least 1000 people die every
year in the UK from passive smoking. More than eight
out of ten Britons are non-smokers. Yet millions of
non-smokers are regularly exposed to tobacco smoke
in public places. Three million non-smokers are exposed
to other peoples smoke at work, and the UK is
falling behind in protecting non-smokers.
