Although the sites are categorized under the three

that overlap into the other areas. It would be worthwhile

The UK based charity provides year round information on
giving up smoking but is centered around a one day high-profile
event (second Wed in March). An e-mail motivation and tips
service is offered and there are a number of facts and figures
given to help educate the smoker about the dangers of tobacco
use. Advice is provided for those not thinking about giving
up, those who are as well as those trying to give up, people
who have stopped and people who want to help someone else
stop.

The air initiative website The AIR initiative identifies
and promotes practical techniques to resolve the public
smoking issue. Perhaps useful to those interested in looking
at passive smoking and for companies/businesses that would
like to find out the benefits and technicalities of making
their premises smoke free. However, this site does not make
all the information on passive smoking available and many
of the 'solutions' offered would not always prove as effective
as is claimed.

The smoke charter website is concerned with ideas revolving
around passive smoking in public places. Aimed at owners
of companies and businesses, especially in Scotland, who
are considering making their premises smoke free but don't
know the facts and how to implement the change. However,

Smoking or Hungarian Health foundation. This page is available
in Hungarian and English. It offers information that relates
to a number of tobacco issues and their current campaign
projects but there really isn't much content on the English
version of the page.

English. The site mainly covers anti-tobacco campaigns and
initiatives dating from 1996 to the present. Relevant not
only to Hungary but to the rest of Europe. Links to a number

The website of the Oxfordshire Alliance on smoking issues.
A clearly laid out site with up to date news articles reporting
tobacco issues and outlines of anti-smoking campaigns in
Oxfordshire. Also included is a list of restaurants in Oxfordshire

The Smoke Free Alliance has been set up in Leicester, Leicestershire
and Rutland and aims to raise awareness and provide information

The site is well presented and clearly describes many issues

economic issues,passive smoking, cessation, statistics and
more.

in Britain that operate a no smoking policy. A brilliant
resource that is easy to use.

The Movement for Defending the Rights of Non-smokers-(AER
PUR) is a Romanian organization. The site does not seem
to have been updated recently and provides very little information.

Smoking and Health Action Foundation. The site is kept fairly
up to date and offers reports on the ill effects of tobacco
use and the tobacco companies. Available in French and English.

The Action on Smoking and Health website offers many tobacco
fact sheets covering a variety of issues, some useful statistics,
a well updated press release section, explanations of various
tobacco policies, information concerning the tobacco industry
and advice on quitting smoking. An interesting and user
friendly site.

The Scottish branch of Action on Smoking and Health. The
site offers a wide range of information that is reasonably
up to date. Covering current issues in tobacco control,
issues in the parliaments of Scotland, Westminster and the
European Parliament. Many other areas are covered including
cessation, economics, inequalities and some statistics are
also given. Information is available on the anti-smoking
drug Zyban. An extremely useful site to anyone interested
in tobacco issues.

Action on Smoking and Health is geared toward tobacco issues
in the USA. The site has a number of useful links, the latest
news on tobacco online and medical advice regarding smoking.

Physicians for a smoke free Canada, a national health organization.
presents a well laid out site with an approach definitely
more anti-smoking than anti-smoker. The site offers advice
on how to give up as well as informing those who want to
keep smoking ways in which they can protect others from
their smoke. A number of fact sheets, tobacco industry campaigns,
counter campaigns and governmental policy regarding tobacco
are provided as well as a powerpoint presentation 'So what
if I smoke?'

The campaign for tobacco free kids is a website that is
aimed at preventing children starting smoking as well as
creating an awareness of various government policies and
tobacco company methods of luring children into tobacco
use. A number of articles are available that cover a range
of areas including passive smoking, dangers of low tar cigarettes
and much more. Also online is information regarding their
latest campaigns. A very informative site.

The International Non-Governmental Coalition Against Tobacco's
website. This fairly sparse site gives information that
would be useful to organizations. interested in becoming
involved in tobacco control. A few basic outlines of some
issues in tobacco control are given and some fact sheets
are available in English or French. The site is not regularly
updated and therefore does not contain the latest news or
issues concerning tobacco.

Available in French and English (although there are differences
between the two sites), Health Canada run a page with a
number of useful publications available online, some as
.pdf files. These cover issues such as women and tobacco
and passive smoking as well as much more. Information on
some current policies to tobacco is given and various statistics
are also available. Some anti tobacco video clips are also
online. Advice is available for teachers and explanations
of current campaigns are given. An interesting site with
some useful resources.

The International Network of Women Against Tobacco offers
a wealth of information regarding tobacco and its dangers.
Although most information is relevant mainly to female smokers
much is offered that is wider ranging. There are many reports
all available on the website and a some information is given
by country. The site would be particularly useful to students,
female smokers and organizations. that would like to widen
their understanding of tobacco related issues that surround
women. The site does not seem to be regularly updated.

information on the latest news relevant to this project

areas, this easy to use page is extremely useful to anyone
with a desire to learn more about tobacco and tobacco control.

negotiating body and gives documentation from the meetings

of Strathclyde aims to look at the Marketing and Advertising
of the Tobacco industry. Some news, press releases, outline

or relevant information of its own but does have a good
links section giving access to tobacco control pages in

The European Network for Smoking Prevention aims to develop
a strategy for coordinated action among organizations. active
in tobacco control in Europe. The full site is available
in English and French. Outlines of past project results
are given and a few reports, available in a number of languages,
are available online. A good links section lists sites from

An excellent website from the British Columbia Ministry
of Health. In an attempt to prevent children from taking
up smoking, parts of the site are aimed at children, parents
and teachers with many resources including a magazine and
posters that explain and display reasons why tobacco is
bad for you. Other sections deal with issues and policy
in relation to the tobacco industry and provides links to
information relevant to this. Advice is also available for
smokers who are considering quitting. Lots of factsheets
on tobacco are available covering a number of areas including
the history of tobacco use. Really worth a visit if you
are interested in tobacco control, especially amongst children.

The Massachusetts department of public health run this very
well presented website. User friendly, this site is easy
to use and provides up to date tobacco related news, tobacco
facts, campaigns, quotes from tobacco industry documents,
a notice board where readers can post their views, advice
on how to become involved in tobacco control and an online
memorial for people who have dies from smoking related disease.
Although the information is not particularly in depth the
site provides a good base of knowledge for those interested
in tobacco control.

The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is one of only two
lung cancer specific charities in the world wholly dedicated
to defeating the disease. The site offers information on
scientific research, campaigns, advice for sufferers and
for those who would like to quit smoking.

The National Clearinghouse on Tobacco and Health is a Program
of the Canadian Council for Tobacco Control. The site is
kept well updated and has sections relating to Cessation,
Denormalization, environmental tobacco smoke, Legislation,
Prevention, Taxation and the Tobacco Industry. Other more
general information is given and a number of good resources
are offered. The site describes the fundamentals of all
the topics covered and then goes more in depth describing
case studies and research methods. An extremely useful site,
based mainly on Canadian statistics. Available in English
an French.
